Our top 5 gadgets for a perfect Overlanding experience

Gadgets Gettin' Lost

Gadgets that make your (travel) life a little bit easier, we love it! Everything that saves space, weight or saves time or money. Because we receive lots of questions of people wanting to know what kind of gadgets we take along our overland trip besides the essentials, we will share our top 5 with you! Do you already have these travel gadgets?

1. Pocket-Size Washing Machine, Scrubba Wash Bag

Pocket-Size Washing Machine, Scrubba Wash Bag

Whether you are backpacking through Europe, explore the Africa overland, or traveling on a budget in South Asia, you are going to love the Scrubba Wash Bag. Equipped with a flexible washboard, this lightweight, pocket-size wash bag will not only help you do your laundry anywhere on the road, but also save you money and time.

With only 2-4 liters of water and a bit of washing liquid, you’ll have your clothes fresh and clean in less than 3 minutes. So yeah, we think it’s pretty safe to say it’s one of the best travel gadgets for overlanders, backpackers, and anyone venturing off the beaten path.

The unique and easy washing line that hardly takes up any space. Thanks to the special click system you can hang it anywhere. 3. iPad

Ipad with Maps.me

A few years ago, you carry a pile of books with you, now all these books are on one device, the e-book app on your iPad. In addition, the iPad can also function as a navigation. Maps.me, IOverlander are one of our favorite apps.

Note: If you use the iPad as navigation, make sure you choose one that can hold a SIM card. Only then you can make routes from your current destination and see real-time how much km’s you still have to drive.

Nowadays you can buy an iPad Cellular for a few hundred dollars. You can save even more money if you opt for a refurbished. They are used but patched up by the suppliers and made usable again. You might think, but then it will break again soon? These companies usually also provide a 2-year warranty.

Costs: from $200,00

4. Single gas stove

Camping Gaz, single gas stove

We did not expect that we would be so happy with this single gas stove. The stove is equipped with a plastic housing, easy electric lighter and a safe cartridge holder that you can easily screw on.

This makes you much more flexible and you don't always have to get everything out of your car to have a break. Making coffee while you are waiting for 'the' migration to make the crossing or just a quick pitch stop! If you also want to purchase this, please note that the gas cartridges are hard to find in Africa when traveling from Zambia up North. So, don't forget to stock them up,

because it would be a shame if you could not use the gas stove.

Costs: $ 50,-

5. Flashlight, Fenix TK35 special edition

It is essential to pack a good torch for your safari. With many unfenced safari camps in Africa, you will be able to spot and avoid wildlife which has wondered into camp at night - and avoid insects, scorpions and snakes in the darkness. Travel prepared in case of limited light late at night. We have chosen the Fenix TK35 for its burning time, easy charging via only a USB cable, the range (480 meters) and its intensity.

Costs: $157,40 Website: www.knivesandtools.com
